Who We Are and What We Do
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation is a publicly supported charitable organization dedicated to supporting the mission of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), a nationally-known flood-control, conservation, and outdoor recreation agency. For over 75 years, the MWCD has provided a wide variety of benefits to area residents. Billions of dollars of property damage and countless lives have been saved by the first-of-its-kind system of 14 flood-control reservoirs. Each year more than 5 million visitors take advantage of countless outdoor recreational opportunities on MWCD lands and waters. Over 12 million trees have been planted, re-establishing lush forests on previously eroded land.
MWCD continues to be a leader in conservation and outdoor recreation, and enjoys a long-standing partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in flood-control. Largely self-funded through fees charged for the use of its facilities and resources, MWCD faces the challenges inherent with the increasing costs of operation and maintenance, and the growing need to address water quality issues.
The Foundation was created not only to help MWCD address these issues, but also to help donors meet their charitable goals. If you are in need of assistance in developing a charitable contribution plan, please browse the Foundation website or contact John Olivier at (330) 343-6647, ext. 2255.
