The Butch Heavilin Memorial Dog Park, funded by more than a hundred contributions to the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation, opened May 14th to a large crowd of both two-legged and four-legged visitors. The facility, honoring Butch Heavilin, long-time resident of the Atwood Lake area, who was killed in an accident in 2007, features a large, fenced in area for dogs to exercise off-leash. Located just outside the entrance to Atwood Lake Park, the dog park is available to dogs and their owners at no charge, and open year round. Butch's family, and those of us at the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation, thank all who made this project possible through their generous contributions. If you are interested in helping provide additional amenities for the park, donations are still gladly accepted. Click here to donate on-line, or contact John Olivier.
