Improved Lake Access Makes Junior Sailing Camp Successful

July 17, 2013

Despite the severe storms and rainy weather, the first week of the Atwood Yacht Club Junior Sailing Camp was extremely successful. About 25 children ages 9 to 16 partipcated in the camp July 9 to July 12, 2013. The Junior Sailor Program was awarded a grant from the Thomas W. Hudson Fund in February 2013 to improve the shoreline and beach access area utilized by the camps.

Gary Lenhart, Atwood Yacht Club Junior Sailing Chairman, explained that the improved access really made the camp successful. "The improved mini launch ramp area, made possible by the grant from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation, really facilitated the launching of the small Sunfish sailboats. The improved area also worked very well for us as a boat repair area making small repairs much quicker than towing and trailering the boats from the larger boat ramp on the other side of the club."

"It takes a lot of volunteers and good partnerships like we have with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District to make the Junior Sailing a great program," Lenhart added.
