Porter appointed to Foundation Board of Trustees

September 11, 2013

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation (MWCF) Board of Trustees appointed DuWayne Porter as a new member of the Board during a recent meeting.

A resident of Plain Township in Stark County, Porter is the Portage County Health Commissioner. Porter has nearly 40 years of professional experience in public health at the Canton City Health Department, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Portage County Health Department, where he was Director of Environmental Health for 21 years and has been the Portage County Health Commissioner since 2006.

Along with his background in public and environmental health, Porter is a member of numerous professional associations, boards, and commissions.

Porter joins the other nine MWCF Board of Trustees, including Jim Schoch of Tuscarawas County (Chairman), Bob Blanke of Harrison County (Vice Chairman), Faye Heston of Stark County (Secretary-Treasurer), Jim Bates of Guernsey County, John Davis of Carroll County, John Hoopingarner of Tuscarawas County, Harry Horstman of Harrison County, Leslie Hudson-Carper of Summit County, and David Parham of Carroll County.

In other matters, the trustees were provided updates on several projects for which the MWCF has provided funding, including the Heavilin Dog Park at Atwood Lake Park, the newly constructed Messerly Activity Center building at Charles Mill Lake Park,  the improved boating access area for the Atwood Junior Sailing Program offered by Atwood Yacht Club, safety boat equipment and binoculars for FFA Camp Muskingum located at Leesville Lake, equipment for rangers at Charles Mill Lake Park and Pleasant Hill Lake Park, and signage to promote the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District’s (MWCD) new “Dock Watch” program.

All of these projects received grant monies from the MWCF in 2013.

The MWCF is a publicly supported charitable organization dedicated to supporting the mission of the MWCD, by providing financial resources that enhance facilities, programs and conservation efforts affecting the conservancy district’s lands and waters.

For more information about the MWCF, contact Nick Lautzenheiser at (33) 556-4831 or nick@mwcd.org, or visit www.muskingumfoundation.org.
