Foundation Awards 4 Grants

August 6, 2015

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation (MWCF) Board of Trustees approved grants to Charles Mill Lake Park, Boy Scout Troop 5084, the Atwood Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, and Atwood Lake Park at its quarterly Board meeting. The Trustees approved a grant in the amount of $750 to Charles Mill Lake Park to support its Boat Parade event. The Boat Parade was jointly hosted by Charles Mill Lake Park and the Charles Mill Lake Marina and was held on July 18, 2015.

Boy Scout Troop 5084 was awarded $910 to purchase materials and supplies to reconstruct a bridge on the Buckeye Trail through Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District property near Tappan Lake. The collapsed bridge, which crosses a creek that drains into the Wye Bay area of Tappan Lake, posed a significant safety hazard to hikers. The new bridge was constructed by the boy scout troop.

The Atwood Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program was awarded $4,475 to purchase 14 roll-down doors, framing and trim, cement floor, three ceiling fans, and a new fuse panel for a pavilion which is used for the Junior Sailing Program at Atwood Lake. The project will allow the pavilion to be enclosed when needed to accommodate campers during the annual sailing camps and for winter storage of the 21 Sunfish sailing boats.

Atwood Lake Park was awarded $1,057 to purchase two additional benches for the Butch Heavilin Memorial Dog Park. The weather-proof benches will provide additional seating and enjoyment for dog park visitors.

The MWCF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the missioin of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. While the MWCF is completely independent from the MWCD, with its own Board of Trustees, it has developed charitable funds that support improvements and programs on and around MWCD facilities. Since 2004, the MWCF has awarded over $300,000 for 68 projects throughout the Muskingum River Watershed.
